One Hundred Mario Games In This Generation!

Which actually never happened…

After New Super Mario Bros. 2, gaming journalists complained Nintendo was releasing too many Mario games (and then they beg for more 3D ones afterwards), and is now a yearly franchise with hardly any difference and therefore sucks. This thought process further solidifies the fact gaming journalists are retarded, but why whine about something (because I r a game journalist too hur hur hur) when I can present hard evidence?

In text…

Since 2006, mainline Mario games for both handheld and console (not counting side releases such as RPGs and (original) sports titles) are:

New Super Mario Bros. (DS, 2006)
Super Mario Galaxy (Wii, 2007)
New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii, 2009)
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii, 2010)
Super Mario 3D Land (3DS, 2011)
New Super Mario Bros. 2 (3DS, 2012)
New Super Mario Bros. U (WiiU, 2012)

At seven, and each one (with U looking to shine) has given different experiences. Also, the 2D and 3D games appeal to different forms of Mario fans.

Side games, on both console and handheld since 2006 include (to the best of my knowledge and out of chronological order):

Super Paper Mario (Wii, 2007)
Mario Party DS (DS, 2008)
Mario Party 8 (Wii, 2006)
Mario Party 9 (Wii, 2011…?)
Mario Hoops 3 On 3 (DS, 2008)
Mario Strikers Charged (Wii, 2007…?)

Mario Sports Mix (Wii, 2011)
Paper Mario: Sticker Star (3DS, 2012)
Mario Tennis Open (3DS, 2012)
Mario Kart Wii (Wii, 2008)
Mario Kart 7 (3DS, 2011)

Some do vary in quality, but most of them are solid (Mario Kart Wii and 7 without a doubt). They do better then most of the Mega Man spin-offs.

I spy with my little eye eighteen games. That certainly doesn’t seem like one hundred games. Now I think there have been more FPS games then Mario games this generation, can someone help me on this?

  1. They want to make it seem like Mario is a yearly franchise to downgrade its’ quality in the mind of the consumer. By putting it in that category with games like the FIFA and Madden games, that release yearly installments that don’t change much, they think people will start to dismiss it whenever Nintendo announces a new one.

But the quality of the Mario games shine through at every turn, so they fail miserably.

  2. This proves their point doesn’t it? A Mario game every year except 2008.

My issue is that the point itself is retarded, more Mario games is not a bad thing especially when the quality is the highest it’s ever been. Super Mario 3D Land is my favourite Mario game ever and one of the best games ever made. New SMB 2 is getting better the more I play it and has a weird new addictive nature.

They gave new Mario games a rest on the GBA and GameCube and look what happened. Hardcore gamers and journalist can not be trusted. What I find hilarious is how IGN heralds New Super Mario Bros U as Mario’s “return to form” because New SMB 2 was so horrible and offensive.

    1. Gaming journalism stupidity is like Wack-A-Mole.

This is just my form of the hammer. On the point however… they are all different games put in different genres. Also, there is so much differences between 3d and 2d Mario games.

Also, I’m enjoying the NSMB2 DLC. Yes, DLC. Something is wrong with me. still… ONE HUNDRED MARIO GAMES HUR HUR HUR.

EDIT: Changed some stuff around in the main post.
