Oh no, I’m not quitting Pietriots, absolutely not. Instead I am calling it quits on ranting and mocking Third Party publishers in their Switch support nearly two years on for being ass-backwards, and to those who still think Nintendo is still to blame for this. I am not going to bother linking previous times I’ve done this on this site because I think the point has been driven so deep it’s become almost parody and borderline predictable. Every Game has Flaws, Zelda has a Motorbike
The Legends of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a great game, by any measure one of the greatest ever made, but the final instalment of DLC inflicted the most egregious assault I’ve ever seen on a video game. At the end of an uneven extra quest Link is rewarded with a motorbike. I invite you on a personal journey with me to learn about why the bike is so bad, how it came to this, and the personal toll it inflicted on me.

1:18pm
For a while now the thumbstick on my left Joycon has been acting up, drifting up mainly but it can do other directions if it feels like it. I blasted it with some compressed air which fixed it for a couple of weeks but now it’s worse than ever. A few weeks back, thumbstick drift caused me to lose the final Smash Bros Ultimate Challenge, and even when I play Tetris 99 the drift can cause me to target other players are random. So I ordered a replacement thumbstick off ebay and found a guide on iFixit and thought I’d share my repair journey as I go. This would be a liveblog but we don’t have that WordPress plugin, also traffic to this site probably doesn’t warrant it, so instead you can follow my progress by looking at the timestamps I provide.
The Khushrenada Contrivance – The 2019 Game Plan
I’m ticked off, dear reader. Once again, an idea I’d come up with in my mind has been implemented in life before I got the chance to execute it first. In this case, I was shocked to see this article by Roland on his 2019 goals. You see, with the new year, I was looking over the Backloggery account I use to keep track of my games. I was able to wrap up a few games in December and cross them off my list. As I thought about doing an article on what I played in 2018, I also thought about looking ahead and what I’d like to do in 2019. It seemed like a perfect follow-up to look forward after reflecting. I didn’t mention this plan to anyone yet during the 12 days it took me to write that article about 2018, Roland has beaten me to the punch making me look like a copycat. So, I’ve altered my plan a bit and my first goal in 2019 will now be to kill Roland to keep him from telepathically stealing any more ideas from me. It seems like the only solution to this problem.
Keep Reading (Because I’m Only Gonna Tell You This Once)Tetris 99 is the best battle royale game because I can win it once every 30 matches or so.
I can’t win any matches of Fortnite or Apex Legends because the whole scene is dominated by zoomers pepped up on amphetamines and decked out in microtransactions. So it’s nice to play a real game that real gamers like me, who suffer early onset arthritis in their thumbs, can win once in a while.
A Solitary Review of Gaming in 2018
The end of the year usually means everyone and their dog is doing some kind of year in review or “Best of The Year” list for various items.

Twenty Nineteen Goals
After the massive success of sharing my goals, and importantly my plan, to complete the Pokédex last year, I’m going to repeat this with my gaming and blog goals for 2019. I found it very helpful to have a plan to refer back to to keep myself on task and written justifications for motivation. Even if you don’t read it, having it publicly posted will be enough to keep me accountable to avoid the embarrassment of not following through. But hectoring me in the comments helps. Like last time, this post will be updated to cross things off as they’re completed and modified if things go awry.
The Nintendo News app on Switch is the best thing
With the Nintendo News app on the Switch, the following things won’t occur:
- Seeing ResetEra level hot-takes.
- Stupid user comments.
- Concern trolling editorials.
- Being force recommended terrible Nintendo opinion videos on YouTube when you try to watch Nintendo Directs.

Last Minute Smash Predictions
I figured a Nintendo Direct would probably be happening soon to hype up Pokemon and other Fall/Winter games. Plus, Smash still needed to reveal the mystery mode. Thus, I knew this was an article I’d want to get to quickly once I started writing here. I just didn’t expect to have to do it this quickly! Couldn’t you have waited another week, Nintendo?
Obviously, there are a lot of supposed leaks floating out there and if you are someone who wants to hear them or speculating about who may make the roster then you are probably already aware of them. As such, I have no plans to recap them though I will be referencing some at times. If you need to catch up, here’s a handy-dandy list of all the big leaks with details so far. For this article, I’m just going to post my own theories and guesses about what may be revealed tomorrow based on a mix of my own reasoning and the possible leaks. Khushrenada Hired at Pietriots Thanks to New Bribe Acceptance Policies!
You know Pietriots, just when I think this site could get more desperate, you go and do a thing like this…
But I jest. Pietriots doesn’t need redeeming. It just needs more content, am I right? Realizing this fact is why Sir Lord Charles reached out to me to offer me a seat at the Kids Round Table of the Pietriots. What better way to celebrate the 9th anniversary (or so) of this site then adding a 10th member? Now, I realize there may be many readers and visitors of this fine establishment who may be unaware of who I am or why I’d be brought aboard since it isn’t like I was much of a prolific commenter here for any who might have recognized me from the comment section. Well, let’s just say I have a reputation for providing content for the internet…

No, Game Critics and YouTube Critics, StarLink isn’t the best Star Fox game
To think otherwise makes you an idiot, because StarLink is not even remotely close to a Star Fox game in style. The game, from what I’ve seen in trailers and footage, is closer to No Man’s Sky in execution. It is not a Star Fox game, and if you are crowing it should be, then you need to shut the hell up.
This is a real Star Fox game.

Completing the Pokédex: Learning to let go.
When we last spoke, I had just added Manaphy to my Pokédex and had another eighty odd monsters left to collect. It’s been a year, and progress as been slow but as of today I have just 28 left. Of the 58 caught over this time about 30 came in the last week due to a recent bout of motivation. Today’s update isn’t about those captures though, it’s about the sheer mental disarray these games have left me in due to their convoluted systems, open ended nature and emotional hooks. If I’m going to finish this job, and I must, I need to learn to let go.

You are asking the wrong questions.
The recent delay of Dark Souls Remastered for Switch has prompted the usual ResetERA concern trolling questions to come out. My personal favorite being (thanks to Deguello sharing it in our Discord):
So I’m not sure what’s going on. Is Nintendo’s 3rd Party relations guy just focusing on indies? Is Nintendo not trying hard enough or do 3rd party publishers not care? Phil Spencer Fils-Aime should go to Japan.
Here’s a hint to the answer guys and gals reading this post: I posted the answer is bold. There is your answer. That is the reason why and has always been the reason. I am not going to waste most of my writing effort to get in depth as to why Nintendo has always had a shitty third party problem, because frankly I cannot muster enough of a shit to their continued existence and rather laugh at the real misery of Third Parties while Nintendo continues to get over-analyzed like shit despite having great success with Switch. 2017!
What a year it has been, filled with ups and downs as we prepare for 2018. So I figured I would crap out some typical “Best/Worst of 2017” post for all of you to bitch about my choices later. So without further ado, here are…
MATTO’S FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS OF 2017!
Why I am excited for Metroid: Samus Returns
Depending on the circumstances, I am fine with being wrong. Can’t always be right about things, but much to my shock it turns out Nintendo had two new Metroid games in the works. One, which is coming out soon (September 15th!), is a full reimagining of the Game Boy title Metroid 2 for the 3DS. Metroid Prime 4 for Switch is still to be determined, but I guess the terrible Metroid fanbase* did not deter them after all.
*Fact: I still hate the Metroid fandom and think they are a blight on the series.
So with it’s impending release, I thought it would be best to talk about why I am excited for this new Metroid game. Continue reading “Why I am excited for Metroid: Samus Returns”
