Nintendo Direct – Better Than E3?

I’m pretty excited about Animal Crossing and the new 3DS redesign, but the internet is just too easy to make fun of right now. Nintendo Direct had a successful community reaction because it came out of the blue and completely bypassed all expectations and hype the media likes to sling around. Nintendo found the winning formula for releasing information: talking directly to the fans.
Sorry gaming press, you fucked up and now Nintendo doesn’t need you.
Nintendo NEEDS you to shut up
I’m sure you’ve all seen the tired arguments, Nintendo “needs” to get more third party support, they “need” to put more core gigaflops in Wii U, they “need” to offer ten different controllers. Well sure that’d all be great, why not throw in ten free games with the console too.

Thoughts – Wii U, E3, Community Reaction
Holy shit! This is the most excited I’ve ever been about a new game console – Nintendo blew my mind with their presentation and I loved every little thing. In fact, the little things were the best part. No catchy title here; I’m just going to run through my thoughts as I watched the conference, and then afterwards when I looked around the community.

Darksiders – Impressions
I installed Darksiders onto my Xbox 360 the other day, keen to give it a shot after hearing the comparisons to Zelda, and keen to experience the first game made by promising dev Vigil Games, who have been vocal about their support for Wii U with Darksiders 2. It’s time I finally gave Darksiders a shot.
Confirmed fact: Wii U can’t play anything
Pietriots can today exclusively reveal that not only will Wii U not support DVD movie playback, but it won’t support VHS video playback either.
This news has delivered a devastating, possibly fatal blow to the Wii U’s hopes of mainstream appeal. Already the list of confirmed media not supported by the device includes 7″ vinyl, cassette tapes, HD DVD and Sony’s popular UMD format. Crucially, laserdisc support has not been ruled out yet and I would speculate that Nintendo are courting third parties to release a USB floppy disk drive for the much maligned machine.
