Just a real quick update to say that I heard that Nintendo’s new plumbing simulator, tentatively titled WiiHD, will have 17 cores in it’s gigaflops. The same noise making device that told me that also mentioned it would get a new Mario Kart game.
Serious Gamers – PS3 at E3 2006
I’m not interested in writing retrospectives, so I’ll just revisit the facts.
The Continuous 3DS Wall Project
In the spirit of our previous efforts to showcase the horrible atrocities committed to the Wii by third-party developers, we at Pietriots are proud to announce our new 3DS Wall.
The 3rd Party Wall of Shame was an analysis of wrongs committed after the fact. This wall is intended to be a display of the building libraries of every developer for the 3DS, along with aggregated critical scores of each title individually and together as a group.
The original wall was made in response to unscrupulous claims from a few third parties that complained that their games were not selling on the Wii, despite their “obvious quality,” and that people were buying Nintendo’s games instead. The 3rd Party Wall of Shame showed those claims to be totally unfounded, as said third parties published some of the worst titles in their histories. The question was asked, “Who deserves to sell more?” The responses were silence and sudden anger at the creators of the Wall.
This is an ongoing project, which I will attempt to keep up with weekly or bi-weekly, depending on holidays or work. And sometimes just mood.
“Durp!” – David Cage: “I think I know what interactive entertainment is!”
There were so many stupid comments made recently that I really got overwhelmed and couldn’t do any of them. Oh, and I blame that flop 3DS system thing. Anyway, back to work!
Our latest “Durp!” comes from the mouth of David Cage, known for that Heavy Rain game that is a disgrace to the ADV genre.
“Look at Call Of Duty. How many copies does it sell every year? I’m fine with that. It’s cool. I’m just saying that I’m not happy with an industry that is entirely limited to experiences where all you are doing is shooting. That’s my problem. There is much more we can do with interactivity than just killing people.”
“Hey, what’s wrong with that quote? He’s defending videogames!”
Oh, yes, he’s defending videogames, but let’s look at one line in particular…

Backlogs – Does Anyone Care?
I’ve noticed a trend of people complaining about owning too many games and having too much stuff they’ve never played, or never beaten. In all of these cases, the backlog issue remains unsolved. People look for “motivation” and ask for help how to clear their backlog. You get all the standard answers like “stop buying games” and “dedicate some time every day” or “use backloggery”. Fair enough advice. You know what though? Having too many games is a pretty good problem to have.
Forcing yourself to get through entertainment is an unnatural process. These are games, not chores. You don’t pay for the right to do a chore. Just leave them until you genuinely feel like playing them. There’s no timer, no expiry date… Imagine if you died and all your unfinished games were put on your tombstone. “Here lies AJ Brown of Backloggery, games unfinished – 83”. It’s so insignificant. I’d rather spend more time playing the games I find great. Life’s too short for Final Fantasy X-2.
If there’s a game you’ve played for a couple of hours, and haven’t gone back to it in years, there’s probably a good reason for that. The game probably isn’t very good. Just throw it away, or sell it. You don’t have to see the whole thing. If you see a mouldy hamburger on the floor, do you feel the need to eat it? Didn’t think so, keep these games in their cases.
Who has a sore backlog they need to scratch?
Wii Sniper Rifle Video – Gameplay Montage
(DivX video link at end of post; watch the new video here)
A follow-up to my previous The House of the Dead: Overkill videos, this time focusing on the two affordable current-generation last-generation games that handle aiming calibration properly: Ghost Squad and The House of the Dead 2&3 Return. The video is a series of quick gameplay cuts trying to get the point across: with the appropriate gun+game combo, everything works “great”, not perfectly, but sometimes better than I expect. The footage says a lot, but there’s more I want to add.

Shit article about nothing
http://www.joystiq.com/2011/03/09/playing-ds-on-a-3ds-is-less-than-ideal/
That’s what this is. The guy somehow finds a way to complain about a feature that’s been implemented to the very extent it can be. 3DS and DS have different screen sizes, and different resolutions. The 3DS is not a DS. SO therefore, DS games can be played on 3DS either -STRETCHED- to fill the screen, or in their original resolution with some empty screen space. Nintendo GAVE US BOTH OPTIONS. There is nothing more they could do other than to physically shrink the screens through vudu magic whenever we press a button. Not only this, but 3DS lets you,
1) Use the new analog nub on original DS games
2) Tracks DS game playtime through the Activity Log
If anything, it’s a BETTER way to play DS games. Yet, this article complains and spins it into a bad thing, by IGNORING the positives, and posting something that isn’t even a negative, without explaining why it’s a negative.
“It’s not great”
“WHY”
“It’s just not”
Shit article.

Game Boy Advance – Impressions
Today I got the chance to play some games on Game Boy Advance. It was quite fun going back to it after playing so many new handhelds, and finding that it still has its place.
